I received their email at night because I stayed in America for a few weeks. “Can you please help us with getting our 6 books ready for print as soon as possible?”
Of course, no problem! Even though it was nine hours earlier here in Oregon, I had enough time to get all the books ready for print long before the deadline set in the Netherlands.
The books were formatted in Word, definitely not my favourite program to work with, but I was able to work with the enclosed PDF. I made two files of each book, the cover file, in which the front and back were connected with the right spine width, and the content file, in which I ran the PDF. Three millimeters of bleed plus crop marks and the book was ready for print.
It seems so simple, but getting files ready for print is almost more important than the design itself, because errors in the print file can delay delivery, or worse, print work delivered that has been printed with mistakes.
