The day I met you was the beginning of everything

I am so sorry

Bodhi stares at the enormous destruction in his forest. So many questions are popping up in his mind. He sees Mylah who looks down in embarrassment. How can such a tiny little mouse cause so much damage, Bodhi wonders. Entire trees are simply gone, with broken flowers, branches, and tree trunks. Bodhi doesn’t even know where to start. Mylah lets out a deep sigh. She is ashamed of the anger that bubbled up inside her earlier that day. Would ‘sorry’ have made any difference? Does it ever? It’s just a word. She realized too late that Bodhi didn’t mean to hurt her but instead of listening and understanding what he was trying to say, she took her anger out on anything that came on her way and destroyed everything.

“I’m so sorry I was awful. I was so angry,” she says softly to Bodhi. “I know you are right but sometimes I can’t help myself. I don’t want to be like this. Can you please forgive me?”

Bodhi isn’t quite sure what to say. He knows she has quite the temper but this beats everything. She has destroyed everything dear to him, including their friendship by accusing him of things that are not true. Bodhi looks around. On the other end, everything is replaceable, except his best friend. If he doesn’t want to lose her, he should try to forgive her.

“Mylah,” Bodhi says in a soft voice, “Mylah, the things you said in anger hurt me a lot. I appreciate your apology, but a real apology means that you also change your behavior and won’t have these angry outbursts anymore.

Bodhi is again right, to prove she is serious about her apology, she will have to change her behavior. Mylah looks at Bodhi, “I am really sorry for what I said and did. I never meant to hurt you. From now on I will be a better friend. You can count on that.”

Bodhi sees that she means it. He picks her off the pile of logs, of which he still doesn’t understand how such a tiny little mouse can cause so much destruction. He gives her a big hug. “It’s alright, little friend, we’ll work it out together.”
